Support

Every child has the right to an education and every local authority has a responsibility to ensure children are suitability educated. Services working together will provide the best opportunity to identify and support children who are missing out.

What do we cover

Alternative Provision

We know every parent has a responsibility to ensure their child receives an education suitable to their age, aptitude, ability and to any special educational needs they have either by regular school attendance or otherwise and most will be able to do so successfully. But what happens if they cannot get a school place, no longer can or want to home educate, stop attending or engaging in their learning or are excluded from school?

So unless a child's attendance is above 96% where they attend school, are fully engaged in their learning in a suitable setting; they are and feel safe, are receiving the appropriate and timely support, as well as making the expected progress for them, then it is likely they may or may be at risk of missing out.

Getting support and advice quickly is essential for prevention and early identification. Schools and Local Authorities are normally best placed to provide support and guidance for children and their families; however, sometimes situations arise where it is difficult to know what to do next and for the best.
